Black Bohemian

From my early memories as a child I have always felt as if I have had a:

  • old soul
  • hippie vibe
  • gypsy spirit

The decision to wear my hair natural came easy because I never understood why I needed to wear it any other way.  As a child I had no choice but to conform to the social standards that were going on (and still going on) in the black community. I could not understand (and still can’t understand) why NAPPY was a bad word. Why did I have to apply heat or harsh chemicals to straighten my hair out?

Once I married my military husband and we started to travel around It was then I started to take a good look at myself. I didn’t see anything wrong with the way I looked. I decided then that I was done trying to conform to social standards and anyone I came in contact with could either accept me as I am or not.

I like being around like-minded individuals who are a little bit:

  • unconventional
  • avant-garde
  • irregular
  • off beat
  • artistic
  • wanderers
  • adventurers

Whatever you choose to call it… I like being around free-spirited people. Often I will incorporate a bohemian/gypsy/hippie style into my  wardrobe and my living spaces.

While in Key West Fl, I went inside a store called the Peace Store. Just from the name alone you should know everything in there is hippie related. Needless to say, that’s my favorite store in all of Key West and it’s where I picked up this little number I’m wearing.

I am a child of the 70’s therefore hippie clothing is my ultimate favorite style.

The art of style is about being the most stylish individual YOUR PERSONALITY WILL ALLOW. You can very well emulate other peoples style but if that style doesn’t fit your personality you will look uncomfortable and feel awkward. If you don’t know your style get to know your body and start experimenting with fashions. For instance, Do you want to be sporty or artistic or sexy or chic or classy etc.?

I mean I don’t do “king magazine” sexy….for me, that type of sexy is trashy. I like a more subtle approach to being attractive and I’ll blend that with my love for vintage/boho/ethnic clothing. Mixing things up and not being to matchy-matchy is my forte.

A good quote I try to drill into the female mind is: IF a man whistles at you don’t acknowledge it. You’re a lady, not a dog.
