Dazzling in dashiki

vpin

What can I say… I love wearing dashikis and I’m very bohemian..lol.  I appreciate a good films, interesting items, real music and real friends. Conversations about my culture and people can take up my spare time.  I’m very defensive about what I love and I don’t want anyone to tell me any different. As for style, I would say it’s eccentric at times – I love to be different. I only respond to real hip-hop..everything else is crap. I was OK in school but art, music and PE held my attention. I’m always up for a good debate. I like meeting people with cultural interest and interesting opinions. I should have been born in the eras of disco and afros sprinkled with a little hippie…. with that being said, I’m a truth teller. My goal isn’t to be LIKED it’s to be RESPECTED.

To have both is always nice LOL… BUT I see a lot of people doing things just to be LIKED…  I can’t. I won’t. I refuse to just accept anything. If you think you’re going to feed me “BS” STOP!…there’s no parking here…Keep it moving.  🙂

I laugh sometimes when I hear people say someone has “changed”.  I say, it’s not the people who changed, their mask fell off.  🙂

So now that you know a little about my soul. Let’s talk about this dashiki. I have a few. It’s instantly recognizable as an African look. Most popular in February because of black history month but popular with me all months because it sends a message that says I protest society’ s disrespect for African Americans and you’re not going to tell me my black roots aren’t beautiful.

Therefore wearing a dashiki is very personal for me. I wear them with pride!

Style and Grace!

It’s important to know thy self and appreciate your roots.

It’s better to be a rare bird than a lost soul.

Like Zora Neale Hurston said, “I am not tragically colored. There is no great sorrow dammed up in my soul, nor lurking behind my eyes. I do not mind at all”. Black isn’t a burdened. It’s who I am.
