I’m a DIYer [dee-ahy-wahy-er]

Hey guys! Sorry I’ve been M.I.A from my blog for a few weeks. I’ve been consumed with teaching myself to sew. I’ve been wanting to learn how to sew for a few years now. I finally took a basic sewing course at my local Jo-Ann Fabric & Craft Store. I’ve been bitten by the sewing bug …  ANNNNNND  I’m totally in love with tribal/african inspired prints! They’re my favorite type of print to mix so I hope I don’t bore you with “another tribal print” OOTD/sew project LOL

The blk/white tribal print skirt I’m wearing in this post is one of my DIY sew projects. It’s a simple circle skirt with a invisible zipper and I used scraps as a belt.  The top I already had, It was a vintage find.

But I didn’t just stop with my circle skirt. I’m still a thrifter at heart so why not re-fashion some out of fashion styles. It’s a good opportunity for me to practice my sewing skills as well. Like with this next project where I took this slightly ill fitting out of fashion denim jumpsuit and tailored it more to my taste. Byeeeeee “cut-outs”, cheesy leg slits and distracting belt loops. vpin

So what attracted me to this outfit?  The necktie! Now that’s pretty hot 😀  I could see myself in this so I paid a hefty $4 for this outfit from the thrift shop and I got to work.

My 1st RE-FASHION project was actually purchased at Goodwill. It was a worn out maxi that had seen better days. I turned that maxi into a mini. The sheer material probably wasn’t the best choice for a new sewer but I managed to do ok. I’m not ready for project runway yet but it’s wearable LOL

This use to be a ratty tatty maxi from goodwillvpin

This was a ratty tatty dated maxi from Goodwill but I refashioned it into something I like.vpin

Another quick and easy DIY project I’ve done was to turn an old T-shirt into a necklace. You can view the video tutorial here and watch in HD>>>   Turn a Tshirt into a NECKLACE

This shirt was thicker and longer than the shirt I used for the video tutorial therefore this one has a more fuller appearance. That floral print skirt is really a DRESS I simply wear as a skirt 😀

So there you have it guys! I know it’s a long post but I wanted to share all my DIY projects that have kept me away from blogging my OOTD.  NOW my OOTD posts will consist of my own creations as I work on my sewing skills.

Put your heart, mind, intellect & soul into your smallest acts. This is the secret of success.
