I’ve got friends I’ve had since before I became an adult and I love them to death. I’ve got friends that I met when I started my nursing career…and I’ve got friends that have come and gone, rarely leaving on bad terms..it’s just for some reason they slipped away. Life happens I guess.
Do people come into your life by coincidence? Is it fate? a chance meeting of sorts?…that invisible thread that connects those of us who are destined to meet, regardless of time, place, or circumstance…hmmm.
Saturday I attended a friend’s graduation. It had ran longer than I expected and because of that I had thought about going straight home to prepare for my next event (Martin Lawrence comedy concert) that was happening in a few hours but something kept telling me to stop by Sherry’s YesterDaze Vintage Clothing and Antiques. I had not been there in what seemed like forever so I went. The visit was suppose to be quick. As usual, I came across cute items but I had not came across that wow piece I wanted to wear to the concert so I kept browsing then I found this:
A 1970’s black & pink paisley jumpsuit WITH a shawl (shawl not shown in this photo)
This was it! I love the 70’s and I loooove jumpsuits. I immediately went to the counter to purchase it. While standing there I heard someone say, “this is my first time here…I’m new in town”. I intruded in on the conversation the person and the owner was having and I said, “Oh you’re going to love it here!!” (blah blah blah) I had diarrhea of the mouth I guess because suddenly with in a matter of minutes this stranger and I were having conversations as if we have known each other for YEARS!! lol
She came over to me, extended her hand and said, “I’m Keyla, nice to meet you. I like your earrings.” I extended my hand and said, “Aww THANK YOU! I’m Latrenia, nice to meet you.”
We laughed, giggled and talked about vintage clothing, jewelry and why we love shopping in consignment, vintage, and thrift stores. Sherry (the boutique owner) asked if I had any cards to my blog to give to Keyla but I did not so She offered up post-it notes and a pen so Keyla and I could exchange numbers which we did. Keyla and I vowed to meet up on the weekends to hang out sometime. Sherry laughed and said she felt like a match-maker lol.
This is Kayla. She said she’s not very photogenic but I said “you look great.” She laughed and said, “Ok, you’re the photographer so I’ll believe you.”
Keyla called me over to the earrings because she saw a pair that “looked like me” and YES, I loved them and then I pointed to another pair and said, “Ooooh now these are cute.” Before I knew it Keyla had put the earrings on the counter and told sherry she was buying those for me. I laughed and said, “nooooooooooooo..you do not have to buy me those!” but she insisted. I liked the dangling green star earrings.
So immediately I said, “When we come back I’m buying YOU something!” She said no but I’m going to do it anyway. Right there at the counter I put the earring on and thanked her again for the beautiful gift. She purchased a cute necklace and other clothing items for herself as well.
Eventually we left the boutique but we did text while I was in route to the show. I sent her the pics of us together and a photo of me in the jumpsuit. She loved it!!
Sometimes you meet a person and you just know that the relationship/friendship is meant to be.
Some people will be important in your life while others may not stay in your life as long as you wish… regardless, they are there to teach us a lesson or prepare us for something that’s coming. I’m not sure if Keyla needed me in her life or if I needed her in mine but regardless I’m glad we met because she is friendly, talkative, and loves photography, museums, and vintage/thrift items. She’s a genuinely nice person and I know this because I’m a good judge of character.
Below are some snapshots I took at home before we left to see Martin.
Depending on where you go in the world, you will hear different stories and theories about how the laws in this universe works. I suggest you be open to receive the lesson.
I walked out of Sherry’s YesterDaze Vintage Clothing and Antiques with two things:
- A hot jumpsuit
- A new friend
